Britain’s Got Talent finalist Donchez Dacres has performed at a charity disco organised by Age UK Wolverhampton.
The evening of Soul and Motown, held at Penn Bowling Club on Saturday night, had music provided by DJ Stringvest and an unannounced special appearance from Donchez, who is married to a member of staff at Age UK Wolverhampton.
He performed a few songs, including his hit Wiggle and Wine.
He said: “Age UK is a charity that is very dear to my heart, helping older and younger people, so it’s a very worthy cause.
“I wanted to drop in tonight and show my face, maybe do something to get involved.
“I’ve got a few charities that I’m involved with and we must not forget that side of it as there’s so much to be done and Age UK always needs the funding, so I’m happy to do my bit tonight.”
Over £650 was raised, which will go towards helping older people to alleviate loneliness and isolation, helping run Friendship clubs, Get Connect IT groups and various other groups.
Jackie Wellings, CEO of Age UK Wolverhampton, said she hoped the event would get more people involved in Age UK.
She said: “It would be great to have more people involved and we can mix it up and have different events.
“I’m conscious of our client group, who might want to do things on an afternoon, for instance, and while we may need to plan things a little bit better logistically in the future, we can begin to have a programme of things people are aware of throughout the year.
“From that, we hope that people will get to hear our name a lot more.”
The evening was the first in a number of events to increase awareness and raise funds.
